MatchMaker tests only if version of game executable is 1.0.7.4, so it will allow to connect to anybody. AFAIK, it should be okey if you install unofficial patch, and it should not cause any problems to connected players. No matter if they have that patch installed...
EDIT: Are you sure that you have public IP address ? no proxy ? because I cant connect to you
