[Rel] Arcanum Color Palettes (1.8GB!)

Post by Crypton » Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:04 am

I found some free time, so I decided to start another task from my list.

This time, its palette extractor tool, which is able to extract color palettes from Art files and save them into image, that are large enough to pick color from them (16x pixel zoom).

By using this tool, I've generated palettes from all Art files in Arcanum, this is at exactly 29 715 palettes! Now its available to download, feel free to use it for whatever you want. It may be useful for somebody who's going to create some new art for game, or just fan art, and want to use colors that will perfectly fit into Arcanum.

I've used 7z to compress that palettes, compression ratio is pretty cool:

Compressed size: 2.4 MB
Uncompressed size: 1 881 MB

I'm also able to generate color palettes (swatches) for Adobe Photoshop (.aco format), so if somebody is interested, let me know. I'm also able to reduce number colors per palette from 256 to less, for example 32, which will be much easier to use, because duplicated colors and color with tiny shade difference will be removed.

Update:

I also made a one large palette, which contains all colors from all Art files, duplicates are removed, shades are not reduced.

Output image is pretty large, 10 096 x 10 096 pixels, 398 161 colors, 291 MB uncompressed, 332 KB compressed, 16x pixel zoom:

Download:

Pretty useless? :)

In fact, it is very useful - arts, made not by the original palette, looks unrealistic in game
